The word “addiction” is derived from a Latin term for “enslaved by” or “bound to”.
Anyone who has struggled to overcome an addiction, or has tried to help someone else to do so, understands the difficulties. Addiction means not having control over doing, taking or using something harmful. It spirals until you can't control how you use whatever you are addicted to and you become dependent on it to get through each day. Regularly drinking alcohol or using drugs can change the way you feel, both mentally and physically. It is the repetition of these enjoyable feelings that can result in an addiction which will cause you and those closest to you, problems.
No matter what kind of addiction you have, it can take a serious toll on your physical and psychological health. Symptoms can include anger, depression, panic attacks, sleep disturbance, obsessive-compulsive traits, deteriorating relationships, poor work performance and escalating financial problems caused by your increasing preoccupation with the activity.
The three main areas the addiction counsellor will work with are:
• Alcohol addiction

"The nightingale addictions counsellor was a pleasure to work with. He was very empathetic and has a gift for makìng what was a very negative time for me, into viewing matters from another perspective and being more accepting of my situation.
